Presentation at Kickoff of SMRP Chicago Chapter

We are planning a more comprehensive report on the first meeting of the SMRP Chicagoland Chapter Grand Opening Event that happened on April 13, 2009, at the Doubletree Inn, Rosemont, prior to the opening of the MARTS conference in our May, 2009 eMag.

The meeting consisted of over 60 professionals ranging from a few consultants to a great many maintenance professionals. Dr. Penrose, along with Nick and Matt Penrose, attended and presented on ‘Use and Misuse of Standards in the Reliability and Maintenance Industries’ at the pre-lunch session (11:30am to 12:15pm). The session was presented as highly interactive with 20 minutes of presentation and 25 minutes of questions and answers related to standards in the industry.

The theme was that people have drifted away from the proper use of standards and, while quoting standards, either do not follow them or directly mis-use them for alternate purposes. Dr. Penrose specifically discussed standards as ‘the original industry best practices’ developed by professionals, vendors, and others and that many of the global standards organizations are working together to harmonize those standards.

The presentation will be given online as a free Webinar soon. Watch for details this Thursday.
