The Full Story

When you look at successful industries, companies, and countries, what are the primary things that stand out?  One of the first things is strength, then pride, and then thinking in the long-term.  What is one of the primary things that killed the Roman Empire?  It wasn’t strength as they had the most advanced and powerful fighting force in their time, it wasn’t pride – Roman pride is still admired today, over 1500 years since the fall of their empire.  It was changing how they thought in the long term.

The Full Story

A friend and I were having a deep discussion during a long walk the other day.  The topic started with the subject of reliability, maintenance, and science fiction and fiction.  I believe that I had said something along the concept that if Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Who, or Star Wars worlds had applied RCM, or some of our other maintenance strategies, the stories wouldn’t have been nearly as exciting.

We also decided, or I decided, that greatest sci-fi/fiction maintenance hero and knowledge worker is Dr. Who.  But, that is just my opinion.  However, he is still the ultimate Reactive Maintenance Specialist!
